EBA takes part in the “Make Power Clean” campaign

The Make Power Clean communication campaign is a joint effort to promote a European electricity market designed to deliver cleaner energy and move forward to a low-carbon economy, launched at the end of June 2017.

The initiative currently includes sixteen leading companies and associations: EBA, ENI, ESIA, Eurogas, ESTELA, First Solar, GASSCO, Nordex/Acciona Windpower, Shell, SMA, SNAM, Siemens, Solar Power Europe, Statoil, Total and WindEurope.

The main aim of the campaign is to call on the European co-legislators to adopt measures limiting State aid to those power plants emitting less than 550g CO2/kWh given that cleaner supply alternatives are available now. This criterion was proposed by the European Commission in its proposal for a Regulation on the Internal Market for Electricity, and it is now to be endorsed by the European Parliament and the Council.

Members of the initiative advocate for a more flexible, secure and sustainable electricity market, to put Europe on track for the energy transition. The proposed criterion is consistent with Europe’s 2030 decarbonisation goal and supports the effectiveness of the EU Emission Trading Scheme (ETS).
