EBA’s contribution to the Renewables 2015 Global Status Report

The report highlights the rapid increase in penetration and use of renewable energies worldwide.

Elaborated by REN21 (Renewable Energy Policy Network for the 21st Century) in an annual basis since 2005, the Renewable Global Status Report offers a comprehensive and detailed overview of variable and nonvariable renewable energies in terms of industry, investment and policy developments worldwide.

Both EBA’s Secretary General and Technical Advisor, Agata Prządka and Erneszt Kovacs, have collaborated with biogas data and insights in this publication that marks another record year for renewable energies.

Indeed, the report highlights how Europe remained during 2014 the world’s largest consumer of modern bio-heat and its share of heat derived from bioenergy has continued to grow steadily until reaching a 12% – 23% in 2014. Regarding biogas, roughly 50% of its European consumption is attributed to heat production. Europe is as well the leading region for bio-power generation and capacity 36.5 GW in operation at the end of 2014.
