The BIOSURF project has been launched

The BIOSURF (BIOmethane as Sustainable and Renewable Fuel) project initiated by EBA and EU financed under the Horizon 2020 framework has started with a Kick-off meeting in Vienna on 25-26 February 2015.

The 3 years long project continues the work carried out by  previous EU projects (GreenGasGrids, BiogasRegions, BIOMASTER, BIOGASMAX) and addresses all key issues determining the future development of the biomethane industry in Europe, such as: sustainable raw material supplies, GHG emissions generated during biogas/biomethane productions, LCA, GHG emission reduction potential in comparison with other fuels depending on production and utilisation pathways. Further on the activities will cover assessment of costs and feasibility of biomethane production, market acceptance and acknowledgement of the „green” value, regulatory and administrative framework for cross-border biomethane trade, biomethane Guarantees of Origin and tradable Certificates, standardisation.

The project consortium consists of 11 partners from 7 countries, among them national biogas and farmer associations, research institutes. EBA intends to involve its members into the activities under the BIOSURF project in order to ensure results which serve the interests of the biogas/biomethane stakeholders the best possible way. EBA also expects that the work foreseen under the BIOSURF project will substantially enhance its policy activities.
