European Biogas Association’s report “Support Schemes for Biogas and Biomethane” provides a comprehensive assessment of how public interventions shape the development of renewable gas markets across Europe. It examines the legal foundations of state aid, the wide range of support mechanisms available on both the supply and demand sides, and their evolution over time. Furthermore, the report offers detailed cross‑country comparisons and in‑depth national analyses, highlighting best practices as well as persistent gaps and challenges.

The report is particularly timely given the EU’s ambition to significantly scale up biomethane production, targeting tens of billions of cubic metres annually by 2030, while reducing reliance on imported fossil fuels and accelerating decarbonisation efforts.
