France: First meeting of National Biogas Committee

New committee aims to promote biogas and biomethane production in the country

The first meeting of France’s National Biogas Committee has set the agenda for how the association aims to boost the sector. The high-level meeting, which took place at the end of March, brought together stakeholders including professional associations, government agencies, public institutions, network operators and potential investors.

The committee was set up with the intention of pushing forward two ideas. First, enabling industry players to share feedback and expectations, especially on how government policies will impact on biogas production.

Second, to enable state services to share details of the strategy and actions they have implemented for the sector.

To do this the first meeting set up four working groups covering biogas support mechanisms, conduct of proceedings, injection of biomethane to the grid and bioNGV (biomethane for use in vehicles).

According to a committee spokesman, the working groups will aim to bring “visibility” to stakeholders in the sector to “facilitate and accelerate” development of biogas projects.
