Germany: Renewable energy sources are competitive
Study confirms that nuclear sector receives most of the RD&D expenditures, while only 12% is dedicated to renewable energy.
The European Commission’s study on Subsidies and costs of EU energy that was prepared by ECOFYS and published on the 10th of October compares expenditures and interventions on the Members States on fossil and renewable energy technologies.
In the second part of the study historic expenditures made by 19 of the Member States on energy-related RD&D programmes were compared. For energy supply technologies this was 2012 87 billion € (including nuclear fusion). Historically the nuclear sector has received around 78% of the funding, of which the majority was on nuclear fission. Only 12% of the RD&D expenditures were dedicated to renewable energy.
The ECOFYS study does not include biogas costs.
