NGF Nature Energy will develop two new plants in Denmark
Utility NGF Nature Energy and farmer’s cooperative BioenergySyd have signed an agreement to develop two large-scale biogas plants in Sønderborg.
According to a statement the plants will both support the municipality of Sønderborg in its plan to be carbon neutral by 2029.
The statement says the deal is worth DKK 500 million (€ 67.2 million), indicating the development would be for large-scale facilities.
The move would create 50 new job between the two facilities once they were operational, according to the statement.
The two new plants in Sønderborg will contribute further to the green transformation of the gas sector:
“We are in the process of transforming the gas sector in Denmark so that the gas in the future will turn green. We are therefore building biogas plants throughout Denmark and have plans to invest more than 3 billion. The two plants in Sønderborg are part of the plan and only the two plants will produce enough gas to replace natural gas for approx. 25,000 homes and save the community for about 100,000 tonnes of CO2“, says Ole Hvelplund, CEO of NGF Nature Energy.
The specifications of the plants are unclear, but previously NGF has been linked with the development of a plant in the area which would process up to 600,000 tonnes of manure and produce about 16 million cubic metres biogas annually.
NGF currently operates four large-scale biogas plants and is building another three, all are located in Denmark.
