Biogas project wins European award

The Implement project was selected among the 17 finalists out of 143 applicants for the RegioStars Awards 2015.

The Implement project which run between 01/2012 and 12/2014 fostered cooperation between local authorities, biogas plant operators and research institutes from neighbouring regions in Scandinavia (Denmark, Sweden and Norway) with the aim to “develop and accelerate the use of biogas as an alternative fuel source for transport and heating”. The biogas sectors in these three countries are very different, what offered a unique opportunity to interact and exchange information.

Project partners received over a million euros from the European Regional Development Fund (50% of the project’s total budget) to compile knowledge and best practices from the industry as well as to carry out initiatives to get local players involved in the development of anaerobic digestion.

EBA welcomes the decision of the RegioStars Awards jury to select this important project. Moreover, it was selected under the category “CITYSTAR: Transforming cities for future challenges“, evidencing the excellent opportunities that anaerobic digestion can offer for urban areas.
