Biomethane for sustainable transport in Europe

The workshop “Biomethane, the Road to Sustainable Mobility ” took place in Brussels on 27 May.

Organised by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and CNH Industrial in partnership with EBA and NGVA Europe, this well attended-event brought together around 75 participants at the Bibliothèque Solvay, in Brussels.

The programme opened with an introduction by Stefan Back, from the European Economic and Social Committee, who also served as moderator. The first part of the workshop then started with opening remarks by Nikolaus von Peter, Member of Cabinet of Transport Commissioner Violeta Bulc. His speech was followed by the remarks of Matthias Maedge, NGVA Europe Deputy Secretary General & Director EU Affairs; Jan Stambasky, EBA President; and Dietrich Klein, Chair of the Copa-Cogeca working Group on Bioenergy.

Presentations were continued by Stefano Bozzetto, CIB, board member of EBA and associate of NGVA Europe; Stephane Gigou, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Head of EMEA Product Portfolio Planning; Michele Ziosi, CNH Industrial EMEA Region Head of Institutional Relations; and Mathieu Lefebvre, AIR LIQUIDE Biogas Business Developer. Closing remarks by Giovani La Via, Chair of European Parliament’s Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety; encouraged the collaboration between different stakeholders for the long road ahead in order to “reach a better future and a better environment working together”.

The presentations and discussions all praised the specific qualities of biomethane and its applications to the transport sector, highlighting the potential role of biomethane in reaching the European Union goals on energetic and sustainability issues.
