Drivers and barriers to Solid Oxide Fuel Cell
Are you enthusiastic about a low carbon future? Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFCs) are modular, vibration free and silent devices that offer high (50–60%) electrical efficiency with low emissions (CO2, NOx), no particulates and methane slip, and high-temperature residual heat, which improves biogas production through thermal pre-treatment of the substrate for anaerobic digestion. The SOFC produces more electric energy per unit of input energy than conventional technologies.
DEMOSOFC project is investigating the barriers and drivers to adoption of Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFC ) in Waste Water Treatment Plants (WWTP). The analysis from the survey will provide evidence to inform EU policy on biogas exploitation. The DEMOSOFC plant is the first example of a high-efficiency cogeneration plant in Europe with a medium size SOFC fed by biogas.
DEMOSOFC is a new project devoted to the design and installation of an SOFC (Solid Oxide Fuel Cell) plant that will generate around 175 kW electric.
The SOFC plant will be installed in the SMAT Collegno WWTP (Waste Water Treatment Plant), in the Turin area, and will guarantee the supply of around 30% of the site electrical consumption, and almost 100% of the thermal requirement.
The DEMOSOFC plant will be the first example in Europe of high efficiency cogeneration plant with a medium size fuel cell fed by biogas.
