EBA is back from the Central European Biomass Conference

Acknowledging bioenergy as a basis for a successful Wold Climate Treaty – European Bioenergy Sector came together in Graz during 18-20 January.

Hosted by the Austrian Biomass Association, Landwirtschaftskammer Steiermark, Bioenery 2020+ and Austrian Climate and Energy Funds, the 5th Central European Biomass Conference was held in the premises of the exhibition center Graz. The three-day event provided a platform for 1,100 representatives of the bioenergy sector to come together. In parallel, the “Home Building” trade fair took place with 40,000 visitors and traditionally focused on energy provision in the building sector to complement the conference.

The CEBC also provided a platform for the International Energy Agency, the World Bioenergy Association and Bioenergy 2020+ to host workshops. The European Biogas Association contributed to the Biogas Day on Wednesday, the 18th of January, hosting a BIOSRUF project workshop. The possible mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions due to the use of sustainable substrates such as manure, catch and cover crops, straw and biowaste were presented. The afternoon session was dedicated to discussing the concept of enabling European biomethane trade. ERGaR, the European Renewable Gas Registry, and the establishment of national biomethane registries were in the focal point of the presentations.

The EBA was represented in the exhibition area together with many companies which are active in the European biomass and bioenergy sectors. The diverse scientific programme of the conference provided a research update on biomass combustion, gasification, biogas and biomethane production, hydrogen from biomass, economic topics such as circular forest economy, innovative biorefinery systems and suitable technologies for a biobased economy but also more political topics were addressed like bioenergy policies in different countries worldwide, supply chain risk management, sustainability at regional and national level and many more.
