EBA’s meetings with the EU institutions on iLUC

EBA had in October meetings with the European Parliament representatives as well as with the Latvian permanent representation on iLUC. Latvia will take over the Council Presidency at the beginning of 2015 and represent the Member States at the compromise negotiations with the Parliament.

Even though the first positions of the institutions were very different from each other, both sides confirmed their willingness to develop a compromise Directive during the second reading underlining the importance of creating more legislative stability for the biofuels’ industry. Before the inter-institutional negotiations will be launched in early 2015, the European Parliament, led by Rapporteur Torvalds, will take a stand on the Council’s first reading position.

EBA will closely follow the negotiations during the upcoming months and contribute by providing data about biomethane as well as proposals for amendments.
All members are very welcome to send any comments or questions on iLUC to Susanna and Nicolas.
