Energy for Poland’s largest slaughterhouse from chicken feathers

The biggest poultry slaughterhouse in Poland produces biogas from 60,000 tons of organic waste.

Half are poultry scraps (chicken manure, feathers, mud) and the remainder is made up of animal waste from the neighbouring farms. This system’s challenge (which will be operational in late 2015) has been in treating the chicken feathers, so that they do not cause problems during anaerobic digestion.
