IBBA Workshop 2015 on “Pretreatment of lignocellulosic substrates for biogas production”, a full success

The Workshop took place on September 10th in Malmö, Sweden.

The Inter Baltic Biogas Arena (IBBA) is the information exchange service for increased co-operation of biogas protagonists in the Baltic Region. Every year IBBA arranges a workshop within a specific topic in the biogas field. The purpose of the workshop is to create networking between researchers and companies within the same field in the Baltic region. 2014 topics included digestate treatment and methane emissions from biogas installations.  For 2015 it was decided to focus on straw and other lignocellulosic substrates, as these constitute a large part of the European biogas potential. These substrates are difficult to digest without a suitable pretreatment method that increase the methane yield and decrease the required retention time in the digester.

With 55 participants the 2015 annual workshop organised by the IBBA more than fulfilled the expectations of the organisers Energiforsk, Institute for Biogas, Waste Management and Energy and DBFZ.

Excellent presentations were given on the latest scientific knowledge on pre-treatment methods and its evaluation for lignocellulosic biomass designated for biogas production. This was mixed with company presentations and a speed dating event that the best possible matchmaking between participants from Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Poland, Austria, The Netherlands, Finland and Norway was possible.

All presentations and abstracts are available for download at the event homepage for further use.

The organisers would like to express their gratitude for the support by IEA Bioenergy Task 37, the sponsor Landia and the exhibitors Tekniska Verken, Bioprocess Control and YARA.
