Italy: Great biomethane potential according to CIB
There is a theoretical potential of 8 billion m3 per year of biomethane.
Lorenzo Maggioni, Head of R&D at CIB talks about the latest position paper which shows the potential of biomethane in Italy. He says that the number of 8 billion m3 would be hard to reach and adds that: ‘if we converted all plants currently in operation, we would be able to produce something like 3 billion cubic meters of biomethane. So, in terms of potential, it’s huge.’
Mr Maggioni points out that the main problems preventing the advancement of biomethane sector are of bureaucratic, legal and regulatory nature.
