Making sense of power at POWER-GEN & Renewable Energy World Europe

27-29 June 2017, Cologne, Germany

The past quarter of a century has witnessed some remarkable developments in the European electricity sector, most notably the transition from being largely organised as state owned national monopolies to the deregulated, liberalised structure that exists today. Add to that the role that the climate agenda is now playing in shaping the industry and the remarkable developments in solar and wind generation technology and you can appreciate why the strategic direction and the technological developments that have advanced the industry have sustained lively debate at POWER-GEN Europe over the years.

POWER-GEN Europe’s host city of Cologne where energy is one of the most powerful sectors and promotion of this key industry is the delegated responsibility of the EnergyAgency NRW which manages the cluster to promote innovations and growth and to secure the settlement of new companies in EnergyRegion of North Rhine Westphalia.  It is therefore very appropriate that POWER-GEN Europe welcomes Dr. Frank-Michael Baumann Director of EnergyAgency. NRW as one of its keynote speakers on its opening day.

Dr. Baumann joins a line-up that includes the CEO of Enel Green Power and the Secretary General of Eurelectric, Kristian Ruby. Mr. Ruby comes to POWER-GEN Europe fresh from his association’s annual convention and will be able to share the mood and the very latest thinking of Europe’s utility companies who make up the membership of Eurelectric.

The Keynote session marks the opening of the 25th POWER-GEN & Renewable Energy World Europe where visitors will have access to an exhibition floor showcasing the very best of power engineering technology and services, not just from Europe but from all points of the globe.

Open to all attendees, this year’s main plenary panel debate welcomes LJ Rich, a broadcaster known in the UK for her great enthusiasm and knowledge in the world of digital technology, gadgets and social media. LJ will moderate a panel of industry experts who will consider the exciting potential that digitalisation offers the power sector in all its forms and also the threat that comes with such interconnectivity.

This years’ POWER-GEN Europe conference, spread over 2 days is being built around eight specially chosen themes which reflect the changes taking place in the industry and the challenges facing both plant operators and the supply sector:

• STRATEGY, POLICY, REGULATION, BUSINESS & FINANCE
• SOLUTIONS FOR INTEGRATION
• RENEWABLE ENERGY STRATEGY, PROJECTS AND TECHNOLOGY
• ENERGY STORAGE
• MASTERING THE DIGITAL ERA
• GAS FIRED GENERATION
• MODERN PLANT MANAGEMENT & EMISSIONS CONTROL
• STEAM-BASED GENERATION TECHNIQUES AND TECHNOLOGIES

If this is not enough, you have a variety of networking opportunities including a B2B matchmaking service and two Knowledge Arenas on the exhibition floor. The Knowledge Arenas feature a programme of presentations, workshops and panel discussions which are free to attend and which will provide delegates with a great deal of valuable take-away from the event.
