First virtual study tour in Argentina’s biogas plants

This is the first virtual study tour in Argentina’s biogas plants. In this case we are going to take a look at Adecoagro, located in the province of Santa Fe. The biodigester processes 220 tons per day; 200 tons manure and 20 tons discarded feed of farmed animals. It generates 1.4 MWh of electrical energy and 150 tons of biofertilizer.

Second virtual study tour in Argentina’s biogas plants

Have a look at Seed Energy Group in the province of Santa Fe. Seed energy is placed in the middle of an area that produces corn seed for planting for different areas of the world. Cobs and leaves are the principal residue generated by this industry and treated in this facility. Two biodigesters were constructed to use this important residue together with glycerine provided by biodiesel plants located in the same province. To sustain year-round operation, 9000 tons silo bunkers were constructed. Two continuous stirred tanks of 4600 cubic meters are used as digesters. The plant is preparing to double its capacity. The feed codigestion is formed by 70 tons of cobs and leaves, 4.5 cubic meters of glycerine and 25 cubic meters of water. The actual electric energy capacity is 2 Mw and with the expansion it will reach 3,4. Mw. The electric energy is injected into the national grid with a contract with the national company.

Third virtual study tour Yanquetruz in Argentina

Welcome to Yanquetruz, in the province of San Luis. This farm is placed in an isolated sanitary area where high scale swine production is secure. It belongs to the biggest agricultural cooperative in Argentina, with more than 50.000 member farms. Digesters are fed with a mixture of corn and sorghum silage plus the residues coming from the pig farm that has 1300 mothers and a total population of 18500 heads. Three primary digesters and two secondary complete the facility with four CHP running on biogas. Additional engines can provide energy to the digesters and the farm in case of energy cuts. Digestate is distributed in the same farm which has 2300 hectares. Liquid digestate is distributed by pipes and special spreading machinery and solids are handled separately. Liquids are stored in a lagoon of 50.000 m3 in order to be able to handle them during periods where application is not possible. The actual electric energy capacity is 2,2 Mw with possibility of expansion in the near future. The electric energy is injected into the national grid with a contract with the national company CAMMESA, which monitors the energy delivered constantly. There are also separate biogas boilers to secure the heating systems of the whole farm during winter.

Fourth virtual study tour Tigonbu in Argentina

Here, we will see in detail TIGONBU, in the province of San Luis. This 8000 ha farm is placed in a new agricultural area where relatively new farms are producing grains and meat. It belongs to an old family company from Cordoba province with a history of 80 years. We will explore one of the emblematic circular concept farms, integrating agroindustry and traditional farming activities. The farm has a bioethanol mini distillery that consumes 30 to 45 tons of corn per day generating 15 a 18.000 l of ethanol 30 tons of DWGS and 70.000 l of thin stillage. Meat production is another expanding area with a 16000 heads feedlot on concrete floors, where 40 T of manure is collected in an automatic way.
